Press Release- Social Peace

The Black Coalition of Quebec deplores the events at Park Carignan the night of June 16, 2009 in Montreal-North between young people and the police which degenerated into a mini riot.

We must also discuss the serious socio-economic problems of this district and many other areas in Montreal. These problems are responsible for the events being experienced there and equally the lack of mutual respect between the police and the community.

    Press Release

On March 24, 2009, the Black Coalition of Quebec issued a press release claiming an independent inquiry into the practices and administration of the police. The CSST report on the intervention of the police during the riot in Montreal North in August 2008 supports our request. In effect, the CSST identifies many weaknesses in the practices and administration of the police: “faulty planning, confusion by authorities, bad evaluation in risk taking”.

    Black Coalition of Quebec

The Black Coalition of Quebec takes its origin from the Black Coalition of Canada which was formed in 1969 in defence of humain rights. The Coalition is one of the principal speakers of the Black community in defence of individual rights. We are at the service of the collectivity to defend against all forms of discrimination.

    Racial Profiling

Racial Profiling is the practice by law enforcement agents of using the law to violate the rights of certain groups base on race, ethinicity, or national origin. These groups or individuals may be subjected to unnecessary routine investigation, arbitrary seizure, arrest and illegal imprisonment. One fequent component of Racial Profiling is the use of frequent stops and search of vehicules driven by members of Black Community.
