
Commemoration of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition: International Day of Remembrance, August 23.
Submitted by margaret on Wed, 08/11/2010 - 12:47.The Black Coalition of Quebec will be observing a week in remembrance of the tragedies of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition, August 23. We remember over a hundred million African slaves who perished through the Middle Passage and many more who were maimed or killed in North and South America and the West Indies in this tragedy. We will never forget the pains and other sufferings of the Black community during slavery which was declared A Crime Against Humanity by the United Nations.
Canadian Governments should address the cancer of Racial Profiling and discrimination

Her report reflects the concern of minority communities and our representation to the government of Canada and Quebec over many years. Walk in silence!!! Don’t forget Haiti!!!
Submitted by margaret on Fri, 02/12/2010 - 11:49.The Black Coalition of Quebec, la Maison d’Haiti, and many other community organizations invite you to a walk in silence in remembrance the victims of the earthquake which destroyed Haiti on January 12, 2010. Today one month later, we will remember the thousands of victims who perished in this tragedy. We will walk in silence along St-Laurent starting at 4:30 pm local time from Notre Dame and St. Laurent along St. Laurent Street to the Old Port. There we will observe one minute of silence in remembrance of the fallen.
Come in larger numbers in solidarity with the Haitian people.
Search of accredited journalists at the Palais de Justice by the police in the inquest of Freddy Villanueva

In a democratic society like ours, the media represents an important element to better understand the necessary elements of a good functioning democracy.
It is for this raison that the Black Coalition finds unacceptable the search of journalists to the point that they are inhibited in the proper function of their work.

Donation of $4175,00to the Red Cross for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti
Submitted by margaret on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 13:33.The Black Coalition of Quebec thanks all those who contributed to the fundraising brunch on Sunday January 24, 2010 for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. We are humbled by the generosity and solidarity of the population in supporting the people of Haiti at this moment of crisis. The Coalition raised the amount of four thousands one hundred and seventy five dollars ($4175, 00) for the victims of the earthquake which was given to the Red Cross.
Warren Allmand on Board of Directors of the Black Coalition of Quebec
Submitted by margaret on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 09:41.The Board of Directors of the Black Coalition of Quebec is pleased to announce that Mr Warren Allmand has been elected as a special representative to advise the Board on Human Rights and to undertake other social justice issues he feel appropriate. Mr Allmand a former Solicitor General occupied different ministerial positions at the Federal level; until recently he was city councillor of Montreal. He has worked with many human rights organizations to promote individual rights and to gain access to equal justice.
The opening of additional office in Montreal- North, August 5, 2009
Submitted by margaret on Mon, 08/03/2009 - 12:55.The Black Coalition of Quebec and Black Community Research and Cultural Center will be holding a press conference on the opening of their additional office at 5653 Henri-Bourassa East, suite 103, Wednesday August 5, 2009 at 11 a.m.
The conference will address the problems of Montreal-North and other parts of Montreal where there is social exclusion, poverty and problems between citizens and the police including Racial Profiling.

Submitted by margaret on Thu, 06/18/2009 - 14:19.The Black Coalition of Quebec deplores the events at Park Carignan the night of June 16, 2009 in Montreal-North between young people and the police which degenerated into a mini riot.
We must also discuss the serious socio-economic problems of this district and many other areas in Montreal. These problems are responsible for the events being experienced there and equally the lack of mutual respect between the police and the community.
