Press Release- Social Peace

The Black Coalition of Quebec deplores the events at Park Carignan the night of June 16, 2009 in Montreal-North between young people and the police which degenerated into a mini riot.

We must also discuss the serious socio-economic problems of this district and many other areas in Montreal. These problems are responsible for the events being experienced there and equally the lack of mutual respect between the police and the community.

The Coalition will open an office in Montreal-North to better serve members of the community who are often victims of racial profiling. Equally, the Coalition will begin information and sensitization sessions beginning the week of June 21, 2009. Our objective is to establish greater respect among the authorities and the society as a whole, because it is through mutual respect that we will obtain social peace.
