Search of accredited journalists at the Palais de Justice by the police in the inquest of Freddy Villanueva

The Black Coalition of Quebec finds that the search of journalists accredited in the coroner’s inquest in the death Freddy Villanueva represents a violation of the fundamental rights of journalists.
In a democratic society like ours, the media represents an important element to better understand the necessary elements of a good functioning democracy.
It is for this raison that the Black Coalition finds unacceptable the search of journalists to the point that they are inhibited in the proper function of their work.
We demand that the Minister for Public Security, Mr. Jacques Dupuis intervene immediately to correct this situation. The Coalition also asks the minister to take adequate measures so that this practice does not reproduce.
